THE LIMIT OF THE SUN

Three excerpts from a new opera by
librettist ANDREA STOLOWITZ and composer LUNA PEARL WOOLF

One night live online:
Monday, June 21st @ 7:30pm CDT

available free online afterwards until July 12th

THE LIMIT OF THE SUN chronicles the interlaced narratives of Assam (ROLAND HAWKINS II), a young man in an unnamed post-colonial East African nation tasked with guarding and handling Cody (DANIEL GRECO), a North American journalist who has been kidnapped in country; Louisa (KERI RODAU), Cody’s mother, working for his freedom from home; and Judith (MOMOKO TANNO) the federal agent assigned to the case. Music direction is provided by JILL DAWE, with dramaturgical input from TRACY CAMERON FRANCIS.

The story is based on primary source research and reporting, and draws inspiration from true life narratives of kidnapped journalists, their families, and hostage takers who endeavor to seek out a better life for themselves in the West afterwards.

We'll present two scenes and an aria from Act One from this fascinating work-in-progress, which reflects, on an international canvas, questions of justice and the legacy of racism, colonialism, and manifest destiny.

This presentation is offered in collaboration with our good friends at THE PLAYWRIGHTS' CENTER in Minneapolis, who have supported this workshop.

Admission is free, but online access requires a reservation. Email us at --
